Lord Shiva - Meaning of Pradhosam - Story of Pradhosam
PRADHOSAM
Scientific Meaning : Evening of the 13th phase of the moon, 90 minutes before and after Sun set. It is considered auspicious for worshipping Shiva in all Saivite temples - when thousands congregate for worship.
Importance of Pradhosam : Pradosha pooja is one of the most sacred and important among the poojas performed by Shivites to the Graceful Lord Shiva.
Shukla Paksha : 15 moon days from new moon to full moon.
Trayodasi : Thirteenth moon day.
Dhwadhasi : Twelfth moon day.
In Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha , the evening of the Trayodasi between 4.30 pm to 6.00 p.m. is called Pradosham. It comes once in fifteen moon days.
Story Behind the Pradhosam:
Once Dhevas and Asuras using the serpent Vasuki and the hill Mandhara were trying to get Amrutham (nectar) from the Khseerabthi (milk ocean). Then the terrible poison Halahalam came up. All got frightened and pleaded to Lord Shiva for rescue. Being the peak of mercy Lord Shiva ate that poison. Then as per His order they resumed their effort to get Amrutham. They got it on Dhwadhasi (twelfth moon day).
Without praying and thanking the God, by whom they got Amrutham, Devas started dancing and celebrating their victory. On Thrayodhasi (thirteenth moon day) they realized their sin of not praying the God and pleaded for forgiveness. The pleased graceful Lord Shiva forgave them and danced between the horns of the Nandhi (Holy Bull). That time is called Pradhosham.
During Prodhosha time anointing (Abhishekam) the Shiva deity with the Following is considered fruitful. Oh Rudra, My salutations to your anger and to your arrows. My salutations to your bow and to your two hands. Rudra is always known to be easily pleased and through the praise contained in Sri Rudram, the fierce Rudra is calmed and becomes ready to grant us every conceivable blessing as requested in the Chamakam hymn.
During Prodhosha time Abhishekam with the Shiva deity.
Anoint the Lord Shiva with Love, He would give Himself !!

How can You Purify Our Soul?
Tips to Purify Our Mind.
The first way is the stilling of the mind, because it is very often the activity of the mind, which produces impurities. The stilling of the mind removes impurities from it; it is like tuning the mind to its natural pitch.
The second way of purifying the mind is by way of breathing. Impurities of mind can be thrown out by the right way of breathing. That is why mystics combine breathing with posture. Posture helps the stilling of mind, breathing helps the cleansing of mind. These two go together.
The third way of purifying the mind is by attitude; by the right attitude towards life. That is the moral way and the royal road to purification. Thus the purification of the mind, from a moral point of view, should be learned in one's everyday life. By trying to consider things sympathetically, favorably, by looking at others as one looks at oneself, by putting oneself in their position instead of accusing others on seeing their infirmities.
Real Happiness
Concentration of the mind on God after purification can give you real happiness and knowledge. You are born for this purpose only. Dive deep, in to the divine flame, the Light of lights is burning there, plunge deep, and Merge within. Our Rishis keep us reminding that do not forget that you are an everlasting spirit (a fraction of the Supreme soul or power) which never gets lost, which never sees extinction, it keeps changing forms with the sole purpose of growth and getting more and more purified. Highest spiritual attainment is identified as merging completely in thoughts and actions with the supreme power known as infinite spirit. When the purification is perfect, it merges with the Universal spirit, the Lord.

Tiruvannamalai Special - Swamy Annamalaiyar and Unnamaliamman
Every month on the day of the full moon many devotees worship Shiva by walking around the hill barefoot, a distance of about fifteen kilometres. There are eight lingams and many mandapas, or holy tanks, around the Arunachala hill.

History of LordSiva
Shiva is the God of all and is worshipped by all, from Devas( gods) such as Brahma, Indra, by Asuras(demons) like Bana, Ravana, by humans like Adi Shankara, Nayanars, by creatures such as Jatayu, an eagle, Vali, an ape, and the list goes on and on.Furthermore, people of different backgrounds and qualities worship the Shiva, with many temples having histories of even cranes, bees, elephants, (Kalahasti), spiders, snakes, worshipping Shiva and getting blessed. It concludes that the Lord, as the Supreme one, blesses anyone who worships him in sincere devotion as there is no discrimination on who the seeker is.He always finds ways to protect dharma and not allow anybody evil to triumph over good.
Shiva is the ultimate reality who is the nature of Bliss itself and all complete in Himself. He is beyond description, beyond all manifestation, beyond limitation of form, time and space. He is eternal, infinite, all pervading, all knowing and all powerful.

Ganesha Mantra
Nirbhignam Kurumedaya Sarva Karyashu Sarvada
The Lord of Success
The son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha has an elephantine countenance with a curved trunk and big ears, and a huge pot-bellied body of a human being. He is the Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles. He is also worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth. In fact, Ganesha is one of the five prime Hindu deities (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Durga being the other four) whose idolatry is glorified as the panchayatana puja.
